August 9, 2013 is Holiday in the Philippines

August 9, 2013, Friday is a regular holiday in the Philippines.

President Benigno Noynoy Aquino has just signed Proclamation No. 629, declaring August 9, 2013 as a regular holiday in the Philippines for the observance of Eid'l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan).

The official list of Philippine holidays already includes Eid'l Fitr as a regular holiday all over the country. However, it is Proclamation No. 629 which pinpoints the exact date of the holiday.

August 9, 2013 falls on a Friday which means that Filipinos will be experiencing a long weekend.

The 15th President of the Philippines, President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA 2013) at the House of Representatives, Batasang Pambansa, Quezon City on July 22, 2013.

The President spoke in Filipino throughout his 102-minute SONA 2013 speech before a joint session of Congress. He was interrupted by applause 88 times.

PNoy also laid down his accomplishments for the first three year of his governance and laid out the plans of his administration for the remaining three years.

Like all his previous SONA, President Noynoy Aquino delivered the State of the Nation Address 2013 in full Filipino. This is to be considered his longest speech so far, running for one hour and 42 minutes. However, the speech received only 88 applause.

President Aquino’s SONA 2013 consisted of 11,642 words, which is considered his longest.

Terms of Office of Elected Officials

What are the terms of office of elected officials in the Philippines? What are the elected officials term limits? When do the terms of office of elected officials begin?

The phrase "term of office" refers to the length of time a person serves in a particular office. In this case, "term of office" refers to the length of time an elected official serves in a particular position.

The President, Vice President and the Senators have terms of office of six years. Other elected offiicals, members of the House of Representatives down to SK Councilors have terms of office of three years. The election of these officials happens every second Monday of May every three years.
