Impeachment in the Philippines: What you need to know

Here are the basic points to understand about the impeachment here in the Philippines.

What is Impeachment?

Impeachment is a constitutional process of removing public servants from offie as an assurance against abusive officials in the country.

The object of impeachmen is solely to determine whether or not the official is still worthy of the trust conferred upon him/her. It is not the determination of criminal guilt or innocence as in a criminal case.

DENR Geohazard Maps of the Philippines

Reports of disastrous landslides and detrimental flashfloods has led the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to create the geohazard maps of the Philippines.

However, even after the release of the geohazard map, the casualties and damages caused by landslides and floods continues to pile up.

The geohazard maps must be used to inform the residents of landslide-prone and flood-prone areas that they are in a gloomy situation in times when the Philippines is faced with ruthless typhoons, and not to be used as story telling tools after the gruesome incidents have already happened.

NTC lowers text message rates

Effective November 10, 2011, telecommunication companies should lower their text message or SMS rates from the current PhP1 (one peso) to PhP0.80 (eighty centavos) per text message.

This is after the National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) issued Memorandum Circular No. 02-10-2011, last October 24, 2011.

Lower charges will be possible because of the order from the NTC to lower the interconnection rates between telecommunication companies.

Interconnection fees are charged by mobile networks for text messages and calls made between subscribers of different networks.
